It is the time of year to be thankful for all of the blessings that grace your day…It is not the time of year to send a lot of waste to the landfills, eat pesticide enriched foods, or contribute to air pollution. That is why we made a list of Tips to Green Thanksgiving.
- Buy Organic Food and Drinks – If you are cooking for Thanksgiving, organic options are going to save you and your family from potentially toxic pesticides that could be in your food. There are a lot of great organic wine, beer, and other alcoholic beverages if you wish to add some eco friendly celebratory drinks to your gathering.
- Carpool and Take Public Transportation – The more you are on the road, in a plane, etc the more you are contributing to carbon emissions. So if you can carpool to family events or use public transportation you will reduce your impact on the environment. If you are driving, check out these green driving tips.
- Don’t waste food – The Thanksgiving holiday is known for being a time when we ruin our diets… and a time for a lot of leftovers. Try to get a final count of Thanksgiving guests and think about your holiday menu, do you really need that extra casserole or pie? After the holiday, put your leftovers in eco friendly containers to use as meals for the rest of the week so that you don’t contribute to landfill waste.
- Put out recycle and compost containers – Along with your trash can, put out boxes for recycling and compost as well. That way cans, bottles, and food waste do not end up contributing to landfill waste.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
