Electric vehicles (EV) have been criticized for not being great cars for long trips because you can’t drive as far in an EV on a single charge as you can on a tank of gas… Well, in the 2009 Global Green Challenge in Australia, the Tesla Roadster traveled 313 miles on one charge…how far can your gas guzzler go? Wow.
Tesla only publishes a 244 mile range on one charge, so it is amazing to see how much farther the drivers, Simon Hackett and co-driver Emilis Prelgauskas went in the Global Green Challenge.
“We wanted to prove a point about the ability of EVs to drive truly large distances – and we have done so,” said Hackett. This ends any contention that EVs aren’t practical cars. They’re more than that – they are the future of motoring.”
Not only is Hackett the Tesla/EV world record holder, he is also the only owner of Tesla Roadster in Australia.With the Tesla Roadster starting cost of $101, 500, it isn’t too surprising that they haven’t caught on more.
Tesla is supposed to release a lower priced EV, the Model S, in 2012 at around $49,900…which is a little more affordable and hopefully will run more than the Tesla Roadster’s record of 313 miles…but until then you gotta pay the hefty price tag to reach the high miles in the record breaking Tesla Roadster.
