Custom Eco-Friendly Wine Cellars

by Kate on September 8, 2009

For the wine lovers out there, and I am certainly one of them, we have talked about sustainable vineyards and eco-friendly wines. Wine is put in barrels as part of the wine making process, and then some of these barrels are turned into firewood or they are used as planters… but a lot of these barrels end up in landfills. Darryl Hogeback designs custom wine cellars and one of his designs is called the Stave Oak Collection. The Stave Oak collection is completely made out of recycled wine barrels.

Darryl Hogeback’s custom wine cellar company is called Savante Wine Cellars. The Stave Oak collection is made from every part of recycled barrels, “from the unique shape and form of the white oak staves, to the steel bands that hold the barrels together, to the cooperage brand on the wood, Savante re-uses every part of the barrel to create a unique cellar racking system,” according to the Savante Wine Cellars website.

Not only is the Stave Oak Collection eco-friendly, but the design is absolutely beautiful. What a great way to reuse something that would have otherwise gone to a landfill and make a beautiful and unique custom product. Cheers to eco-friendly wine cellars!

What a great idea, and it really looks attractive too. I wonder how difficult is it to fabricate?
