I am not a home owner, so I used a friend’s address when I looked at this site. You basically type in your address on the home page and a satellite picture pops up of the home’s lot and some surrounding area. That caught my attention. Why go to this site and why look at a satellite image of your home? Well to get a quote for solar panels of course.
Sungevity makes this process incredibly easy. Most of the time they can give you a quote for solar panels without even coming to your home. They get an accurate measurement using the satellite images of the roof and the pitch of the home, then they will then give you two to five options for every quote so that you know what to expect for pricing and the different options available. Only some more complicated homes must be visited for a quote. Wow this sounds easy.
This is so cool. Adding solar panels to a home sounds kind of scary and confusing, but Sungevity seems to make it easy. If you live in California – that is. Sungevity is located in California and as of right now, their services are in California alone, but you can still look up your address on the website even if you don’t live in California. Hopefully they will spread across the country soon…

Small scale renewable energy systems will play significant role in the transition from fossil fuels to renewable sources. Since power grid expansion is very expensive they become even more important, especially for developing and poor countries. Plus, consumers will become more responsible about their energy usage when they’ll generate their own energy.
