Solar Powered Generator

Hurricane season is back and this causes panic in a lot of areas. If you don’t get hurricanes, you might get tornadoes, snow storms, ice storms, and other types of bad weather that can leave you feeling helpless, especially when you lose power in your home. As a Florida native, I have experienced this many times…and three weeks (which is low compared to some people) without power can be really frustrating. The good thing is, there are generators out there that can partially power your home when the power is out. The problem is they run on gas, and usually fumes come out of them making them not ecofriendly. Plus, ever tried getting gas when there has been a big storm? It is awful. Gas stations run out of gas and when one does have gas, you wait in line for 2 hours to get it… awful. The good thing is someone finally came up with an alternative type of generator that does not run on gas and that is more ecofriendly – a solar powered generator.

I saw this and my first thought was, ‘I want that!’ The solar powered generator runs strictly on solar power and can even charge while you are using it! It does not require any gas and it can manage 1,800 watts of power. Why wouldn’t you get this? Well…it is really expensive. Right now they have a deal going on where they have dropped the price from $2,097 to $1,597, but that is definitely a lot considering you can buy a gas powered generator that generates 2,000 watts of power for about $200… I just go without power in this emergency situation but if you can afford the price tag and want to have an ecofriendly source of energy, this appears to be an excellent choice.

If you do spend the money to get one, you can use it on a daily basis to power some of your electronics, why wouldn’t you? It is a free source of power and eventually you will save the amount you paid for the generator. The Solar Powered Generator has a life of 20 years, so that is plenty of time for it you to pay it off…

If you live where there are natural disasters and you can not go without power, consider the Solar Powered Generator as an ecofriendly alternative.

Great post!

I live in VT, and am used to frequent power outages, during both winter blizzards and summer thunderstorms. I have a gas-powered generator that is loud and belches out so much emissions that I worry what I’m doing to the trees.

Your post reminded me of another product that’s being made to be more eco-friendly these days — although not run by the sun. Baseball scoreboards and football scoreboards, the new generation, are all being run by LED tech now. Not only do they look beautiful and the pictures are crisp and clean, I understand that they use a lot less energy than scoreboards powered by incandescent bulbs.

There’s a good article at electro-mech.com that explains all this, if anybody’s both a sports fan and ecologist. Just Google them and go to their homepage. The article’s there.

Best, Don

I would love one of those… I live in New Orleans and last year we had to evacuate Gustav to take care of my boyfriend’s dad near Baton Rouge and got stuck right in the middle of the path of the storm. His house was without power for about two and a half weeks. I can’t spring for a solar generator right now, but this is a good reminder that I really need to invest in a solar/crank radio though!
