Green Golf Balls

by Kate on May 31, 2009

It is that time of year. Summer is here and during these warm days we all want to be out in the sun. One particular outdoor sport that is definitely more fun when it is sunny is Golf. I am a golfer, but there is a lot about this sport that is not green…except for the grass of course…The massive amount of land that is necessary in order to create a golf course and the maintenance to keep the grass correct for playing is definitely not great for the environment. However, Dixon has decided to make the most important part of golf sustainable – the golf ball.

The Dixon Earth golf ball is made from all recycled and recyclable materials. The core of the ball is made from a renewable material, proprietary polymer. The rest of the golf ball and the packaging are made from recyclable materials. What I like best about this golf ball company is that a box golf balls comes with a return mail pouch that golfers can place their used Dixon Earth golf balls in and if they mail them to Dixon, they get a discount on future orders of golf balls. So not only are the Dixon Earth Golf Balls recyclable. If you do recycle them, you get a discount on future golf balls and they make the process incredibly easy!

Dixon does not stop there. Even the golf tees, also known as the Ecotee, are sustainable! They are made extra strong so that they will not break, like other tees, and they are made from harvested lumber so that no trees were cut down to make them. Dixon also make organic hats to wear while playing. Dixon Earth Golf is leading the way to help make golf a more sustainable sport, and we like it.
