We have all heard of EHarmony and Match.com, but what about a dating site focused on helping people find a date with someone with the common interests of going green? Now there is one – EcoDater.com.
EcoDater.com is an online dating community for single men and women who care about living an environmentally friendly lifestyle. Members include vegans, vegetarians, organic farmers, outdoor enthusiasts, yoga practitioners, activists and many more. According to Ryel Kestano, the EcoDater founder, “EcoDater.com is a very open-minded place. We believe in building a community one person at a time, giving each person the resources to share passions, interests, or musings. We created EcoDater because it represents the best of what we see and experience in this world – community, connectivity, friendship, and a respect for the natural life.” Sounds like a good idea to me.
There are two types of membership for EcoDaters. There is the free membership that allows you to post a profile with a few pictures, search for other profiles, and contact other EcoDaters. The Premium membership costs $4.95 a month and allows you to post an unlimited amount of photos; it gives a more advanced profile search; gives access to EcoMatch, which matches you to other EcoDaters based on profile information; and you can contact free and premium EcoDaters. Right now, if you join as a free member, you can be a premium member for free! It is not clear when this promotion is over… but that sounds like a pretty good excuse to try this out… if you are single.
I have to say I have several friends who have found their husbands and wives through other matchmaking sites like match.com, eharmony.com, Catholicmatch.com, and even myspace… So, I am an avid supporter of these online dating sites. I think that EcoDater.com has a lot of potential. How nice to join a dating site knowing that everyone shares the same lifestyle and loves to take care of the planet? Plus, EcoDater.com donates a portion of it’s revenue to ecofriendly nonprofit organizations including National Resources Defense Council, World Wildlife Fund, and American Forests. Going green and finding a date. Love it.

Eco dating is a great idea. I think moving forward there is plenty of opportunity within existing markets to focus on the environmentally friendly niche. I know lots of vegans who have a hard time meeting like minded partners. This site will be a great help.
