Drinking Coffee For A Cause

by Kate on May 18, 2009

Southwest has decided to start offering a higher quality, 100% Arabica bean blend coffee, called LIFT, to its customers… and it’s free! It is also served in post consumer recycled paper cups. Cool!

The coffee on its own would be an exciting amenity on Southwest Airlines flights, but they take it a step further. The more coffee you drink, the more money Southwest will donate to theĀ Guatemala Light Project.

The Guatemala Light Project raises money for a cooperative in Guatemala that providesĀ homes with solar- powered LED systems and teaches the villagers how to install them. This is an excellent cause because in these coffee growing regions of Guatemala, the villagers do not have any source of light once the sun goes down. These solar-powered LED systems finally give these villages light in the evening.

So, next time you fly Southwest, drink as much of their high quality coffee as possible! The after affects of crazy hyperness will all be worth it for all of the money donated to the Guatemala Light Project… Seriously, this is a cool way for Southwest to provide a green amenity to its’ customers and support an excellent cause.
