Green Race Car

by Kate on May 15, 2009

The world’s first green Formula 3 racecar was recently introduced by its inventors from Britain’s Warwick University – it runs on a bio diesel fuel engine, can reach speeds up to 140 miles per hour, and it is made of vegetables… Huh?

The steering wheel is made from materials derived from carrots and other root vegetables, the racing seat is made from flax fiber and soybean oil, the mirrors are made from potato starch, the brake pads are made from ground cashew nut shells, and the bio diesel engine runs on fuel derived from chocolate factory waste and vegetable oil.

Too bad they can’t race it… the Formula 3 Races do not allow biofuel engines… yet. Maybe one day all racecars will run on chocolate waste and will be made of vegetables… you never know.

This green racecar took around 9 months to build and cost a nice $227,000 – and they can’t even race it… bummer. But it is a small step to greening car races.
