If it is time for your car to be checked out, and you drive a Volvo – skip the courtesy loaner car and ride a bike home instead!
Clive Brook Volvo discovered that a lot of customers were bringing bikes with them to ride home when they brought their car into be checked out. Volvo offers a loaner car for free, but customers were refusing it and riding their bikes home instead. Volvo decided to encourage green ways and offer a loaner mountain bike equipped with all safety gear along with a courtesy loaner car.
Why wouldn’t a car dealership do this? It is a lot cheaper for dealerships to give a bike as an option instead of a car – cheaper maintenance, cheaper insurance, and cheaper to buy! Plus it gives the Volvo dealership a greener image to its customers.
This is not an option at all Volvo dealerships, as of right now only Clive Brook Volvo in Yorkshire, England is offering this opportunity. However, hopefully other Volvo (and other brands) dealerships will follow.

Great post Kate. I think offering customers a bike instead of a loaner car will only work in metropolitan areas in the US, such as San Francisco and New York. I can’t imagine people who are living in the suburbs, taking their car to a Volvo dealer and then riding a bike home.
Does Volvo have their own line of Volvo branded bikes that they can promote? Additionally, I think if Volvo can strike a marketing deal with the likes of Cannondale or Trek, this wouldn’t cost them much to implement at all dealerships.
