- Have no waste meals. Eat at home or take your food with you in reusable containers or use compostable disposable products. Remember to compost leftover food!
- Bring a water bottle to use all day.
- Don’t use paper! Try print free methods like emailing documents to employees, professors, family, etc. If you must print, print on both sides and recycle when you are done.
- Go outside and be thankful for our beautiful planet. Earth Day is about honoring the environment, so do something outside today. Eat outside, play frisbee outside, walk outside, anything! Reward yourself for living green.
- Encourage others to be green on earth day, especially if they do not normally recycle, eat organic/fair trade food, etc. Recommend that they sign up for our Weekly Green Tips to get started.
- Buy organic, fair trade, and local groceries. Stay away from harmful pesticides and support sustainable business.
- Wear organic. Today is the day to wear your greenest clothes! Tell everyone “Happy Earth Day” and talk about your outfit. Even better, wear a Treeshirt.
- Commute around today. Use public transportation, walk, or ride a bike! Even just one day makes a difference.
- Drink Green. Going out for happy hour? Ask for organic or local beer and wine. Want a cocktail? Try a Treetini!
- Make one big change at work and home. Switch out light bulbs to CFLs, recommend that everyone turn off lights when they leave a room, unplug electronics to prevent phantom energy loss, set out a recycling bin next to the printer, recommend solar panels to the office manager. If it is something small or something big – just one change can make a difference, and today is the perfect excuse to recommend it!
