The Superbowl may be gone, but we figured we should still post these green tips from last week’s newsletter because they are useful for any type of party!
- Recycle your beer cans, beer bottles, wine bottles, vodka bottles, etc. Put out a recycling bin or a box for people to throw their empty bottles and cans in. Make it more fun by decorating the box in your favorite team’s colors.
- Bring your own bags to the grocery store when picking up food and drink items. The plastic bags they give you cause major landfill buildup and its easy to bring bags from home to avoid this waste. Plus, some stores will give you a discount when you bring your own bags.
- Serve organic and/or fair trade food. Buy organic burgers, chips, hot dogs, buns, etc. Most of your favorite Super Bowl snacks come in organic varieties. There are even fair trade and organic beer and wine. (My favorite fair trade wine is the under $10 Neu Direction Malbec. Cheap and Tasty.)
- Do not use disposable dishware or utensils. I know its a pain to clean up all of the dishes after everyone leaves, but think of it as a labor of love to the environment and the Super Bowl party gods. (Plus not buying the disposable products saves you money.)
- Use napkins and paper towels made from recycled material. Not only is this less wasteful, normally these products are cheaper than the leading brand.
- Watch the game with friends – lots of them. That way you only use the energy from one tv, one set of speakers, and one set of lights.
