President Obama and His New Energy Plan

by Kate on January 21, 2009

President Obama’s White House website is now up and running and a key section of the site is the “Energy & Environment” section of the “Agenda.” Basically it is Obama’s New Energy plan in greater detail, including what he wants to happen within the next ten years to the changes he wants by 2050. There are several key points I found worth mentioning:

  • 5 Million new jobs in clean energy with a $150 Million investment.
  • 1 Million Plug-In Hybrid cars that get at least 150 miles per gallon by 2015 (Part of this goal is that all of the cars will be made in the U.S.A.)
  • 10% of country’s electricity be from a renewable source by 2015 and 25% by 2025
  • Reduce green house gas emissions by 80% by 2050
  • In 10 years, no more imported oil from Venezuela and the Middle East
  • A $7000 tax credit for purchasing Advanced Vehicles
  • Make the USA a leader on Climate Change (I think this one is my favorite, I am a proud American citizen and this would make me prouder.)

I like that this plan has a green but also a profitable outcome. Once the infrastructure is put into place, people potentially will save a lot of money using alternative forms of energy to power their homes, vehicles, and offices. Are we beginning the green revolution? Let’s hope so. Cheers to carbon free living!
